Colon Health: You are What You Eat

To maintain a healthy colon, you should be eating a diet rich in a number of nutrients.

For colon health, make sure you're getting enough of the following:
  • Soluble Fiber: You can add soluble fiber to your diet through oats, fruit and beans.
  • Insoluble Fiber: You can add insoluble fiber to your diet by eating wholegrain products and wheat bran.
  • Water: Water helps maintain normal bowel movements and also helps the body process fiber. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water each day.
  • Yogurt: Yogurt contains bacteria that are essential to digestive tract health.
  • Microflora Supplements: Take supplements to increase the level of good bacteria in the digestive tract.

In addition, you should avoid processed starches, proteins and fats and should also avoid taking antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, as they can kill beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract and the colon.
